The Swimming Competitive Pathway

Understanding the swimming structure

This guide focuses primarily on England, where the governing body is Swim England. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have similar structures but operate under their own governing bodies.

From swimming lesson programmes, through to qualifiers, to Olympic trials, each step in the competitive pathway becomes more selective, progressively filtering fewer swimmers.
